Ancaire Cottage, Schull is a dreamy 200 year old Irish cottage, in picturesque West Cork. Overview:
Ancaire Cottage is a two hundred year old stone cottage which has been lovingly restored to a very high standard. It shares the same courtyard as the owners Farm house which provides ample car parking.
Once you walk through the gated archway to the cottage you are in your own totally private garden with small salad and herb garden plus a glass house with tomatoes (season permitting). Guests are welcomed to help themselves to this fresh produce at no extra cost. From the cottage garden you can step through the gate into the owners field in which you will find free range chickens, ducks, geese and a donkey. Guests are also free to help themselves to fresh eggs.
There are two very large bedrooms, one upstairs with two single beds and the other downstairs with a double bed. Both rooms are fitted out as bed / sitting rooms. Downstairs is a kitchen / diner and a utility room with washing machine, iron and ironing board and a toilet with power shower.
The cottage is well equipped with cooking utensils, crockery, hair dryer and all necessary soaps, washing up liquids, etc., towels and of course bed linen.
Fran, your hostess and owner, will ensure you are comfortable and along with her husband will always advise you on local activities and attractions.
The cottage is located in picturesque West Cork, only 3 miles from the beautiful fishing and tourist harbour of Schull and two miles from the traditional village of Ballydehob. Both offer a wide variety of restaurants, shops and pubs. Live Irish music is frequently found in both Ballydehob and Schull.
There are many coves and beaches within walking distance of Ancaire Cottage, four bicycles are supplied to explore these ancient back roads whcih invariably lead down to the sea. Roaring water bay is only four miles distance with the beautifully restored castle owned by Jeremy Irons. Going west a few miles there is the village of Toormore with its white sandy beaches and Barley Cove famous for its surfing. From Schull harbour there is a regular ferry to Cape Clear Island, Sherkin Island and Baltimore which are well worth visiting. The market towns of Bantry and Skibbereen are only twenty minutes away by car and the very popular adn beautiful harbour town of Glengariff is just 20 minutes west of Bantry.
The nearest airport is Cork at less than two hours by car or bus. Kerry is about 2.5 hours by car.
